Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

So, I've sucked as of late about reporting anything new or exciting on Teeterhill. Oh I've decided to call my area Teeterhill, because no one knows where on the Hill I live until I say "near the new Harris Teeter." Anyway, I've sucked at writing here because:

1. I am getting married in a matter of weeks and we're at the point where there isn't a day without wedding stuff to do after work.
2. I've been trying to ramp things up a little at work now that I've sorta found my flow.
3. I've started a foray into freelance writing and while I've only had one restaurant review published so far, it took up my very little "free time" not devoted to wedding stuff. (See "G Street Food")

My promise to you and me: After the wedding, I will be better about updating my blog and posting more frequently.

Lost Tourists, Not a First in My Hood

Sooooo, every six months or so a few unfortunate tourists prove why DC residents scorn them: their inability to navigate the city and their unwillingness to admit as much.

Tonight at approximately 10 PM a group of three very average looking Americans were seen helplessly wandering down K Street SE toward 14th Street SE. Having arrived at the corner and found that, in fact, the Crown Plaza Hotel was not there, the male of the trio pulled out what could only be a MapQuest Map (the rest of American doesn't like Google maps). After arguing under the street light for a few minutes, the "mom" of the group decides to walk over to Hopkins project to ask for directions, learns the mistake and promptly returns to smack the "dad" repeatedly on the arm. They eventually followed her lead and headed up 14th toward Pennsylvania. I can only hope they managed to locate the metro, because they are CERTAINLY not going to catch at cab at the corner of 14th and Pennsylvania SE at 10 PM on a Monday.

And I know, not all toursits get lost. But I've been around for this at least two times, which means it probably happens more than that. And I know you out of towners are yelling at me, "Oh but, DC is America's city." Quaint, but actually it's not. This is my town. That's why I know that I live near 14th and K SE and work near 14th and K NW. Perhaps this will help:

Car Chase Ends in Hill East

For those of you wondering what 8-10 police cars were doing near the corner of 12th and K St SE this evening around 6pm, turns out it was the end of a car chase. Check out the NBC 4 news article.

What baffles this blogger is that even though the perps in the stolen car shot at the police, AND a gun was recovered from the scene, this story is buried in the local beat of NBC 4 and nowhere to be found on washingtonpost.com ...

Potomac Ave Bids Adieu to the Convenience Store/Dry Cleaner

It's official. Over the weekend a moving truck parked outside of the 24 Food Store on the corner of Potomac Ave and Pennsylvania Ave in SE was a harbinger of this sad day. The doors are closed to make room for the new cafe planned for that corner.

The dry cleaner and convenience store will be converted into a lively neighborhood gathering place with live music and outside seating. Next door at Trusty's they recently petitioned the ANC for rooftop use, which was tentatively approved. Change is in the air at Potomac Avenue.
